Mascara War: Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara vs. Rimmel The Max Volume Mascara

I again followed the advice of and tried out Rimmel's latest, The Max Volume Mascara.(approx $7.00 @ CVS) I am ALL about the volume and was looking forward to seeing if I found it to rate a 5 as well. I've never really used Rimmel because it just seemed cheap to me(usually although $7.00 is not cheap - $4 yes) and didn't know if I would get what I paid for.
Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara (approx $10.00) surprised me before when I tried it and I wanted to know how it would rate compared....

Here come the PICS:

Top: MaryKay
Bottom: Rimmel
Mary Kay has a small round wand. It was easy to apply. I thought it would have been hard to get it all on but it wasn't. I've had it open about a month now and it was left out in my car overnight. (chilly) So when i pulled out the wand it was a bit clumpier than usual. It's almost NEVER clumpy. It's supposed to be known to pull out with just enough to coat both lashes. I think the cold had something to do with it. soft full bristles.
Rimmel has weird design on their seperated fiber wand. I thought it would have really grabbed my lashes. Instead I found it a bit uncomfortable to apply, though afterwards my lashes WERE thoroughly coated. hard bristles.

Top: Natural
Middle: Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara
Bottom: Rimmel The Max Volume Mascara

Well, to me the results were really really close. So much that you almost don't see too much of a difference.

To see the picture bigger, click on it. You may notice that the Rimmel was actually a bit, but not by too much better, in that it made my lashes longer. Mary Kay Still looks good. If you noticed on the middle picture for Mary Kay my lashes look shiny. Mary Kay makes them silky looking. And it dries soft. That I love.
Rimmel dries hard. If you are going to curl your lashes do them beforehand. Although I prefer the smaller wand of the Mary Kay since I can get into my inside lashes pretty easily, it was clear when I applied the Rimmel that it was a stark contrast to my bare lashes. They were very much longer and fuller. I must add that I have been wearing this Rimmel for a month now. When I first put it on I would have rated it a 3! I did not like it and much preferred Mary Kay. But after a month it seems the mascara gets even thicker and applies even better. Now I love it and can see what people are raving about. If you don't like it, don't give it up so quickly. Stick with it. It just might surprise you!

Mary Kay Rating: (1-5) : 4.0 (would be a five if my lashes were longer. Could have had darker volume.)
Rimmel Rating: (1-5): 4.50 (would be a 5 if it dried soft and not so uncomfortable to apply.)

Winner: Rimmel!
Recommend? Yes if you want long lashes with some volume AND super length and don't mind harder drying finish.
New Favorite? No. (Although it comes in a close second to L'Oreal Voluminous...)

That's it folks! Have a great week!

Mascara War: MF VC & L'Oreal VCB UPDATE

So I've had both of these mascaras for about 3 months... Update?

MaxFactor Volume Couture is starting to dry out, clump, and is not holding out as long as L'Oreal Voluminous. Have I used this one more? I'm not sure. I think not. I tried to keep this one for the more special occasions. I did notice that when wearing this on it's own my eyelashes tend to droop a bit by the end of the day. It still gives a seperated look though.

L'Oreal Voluminous is still coming out thick, black, and with a heavenly "pop" sound. Does it clump more than usual? Nah. It's still the same and going strong. I don't know what it is though but even if it doesn't get my lashes up as high as MaxFactor I am totally lovin the volume...

I'm going to use them out for sure.

Next War? Mary Kay Ultimate Mascara vs. Rimmel The Max Volume Flash.

Have a great week!

L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black VS. MaxFactor Volume Couture

I've seen some really neat blogs with the best mascara reviews. I've come to love that does Mascara Mondays every week. Really neat!  Two of her go-to mascaras I had to try for myself: L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black & MaxFactor Volume Couture.  She loved them both for volume. Her review was one of the few that actually gives detailed photos and even some video. I went ahead and tried them out for myself and even got some photos. Which is better on my latino- philipino-esq eyes? And what would they look like together? Hmmm... check it out:
(note: I used Carbon Black voluminous not the original)
The lighting in some photos is a bit different because I applied on different days. Few times at home, and a few in the car... (wasn't driving :))

Here is what it looked like.
1. Natural
2. L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black
3. Max Factor Volume Couture
4. Both applied together
(You can click on the photo to see them larger in a new window.)

Results for me?  I would say I like them both! MF Volume Couture was only a dollar or less more than L'Oreal Voluminous and it made my lashes super long.(I know some have found the L'Oreal Voluminous Mascara at Target for $3.99 - not me yet. They were both around $7-$8.00)  A few eyelashes were just below my eyebrows while looking upwards.  Some have found that it is impossible to clump MF mascara but I found this was not so with me. At the end of my second coat some of my lashes started to bunch and on the third it would have clumped so I stopped there. L'Oreal Voluminous does clump, but I thought it clumped in a good way. It made my lashes super dark and curled upwards nice and well coated. I did not like that I couldn't go for a third coat because If I did I would most definitely need a lash comb, which surprisingly enough, I do not own. MaxFactor was great for length, and L'Oreal great for dark color. Together? Awesomeness! One big difference I noticed between the two was that L'Oreal Voluminous gave my eye lashes a dark heavy look. (fullness?) and MaxFactor Volume Couture was not so heavy.  L'Oreal Voluminous does come off under your eyes if you sweat. After a workout I had a bit, but not much. It was a bit more difficult to remove as well. MaxFactor Volume Couture did not come off on my cheeks AT ALL, even during a workout, and it amazingly removed quite easily! This surprised me very much. If I could just choose one? Hmmm.. That's a hard one but I'd probably go for MaxFactor for these reasons: It gives great length. I could go ahead for that third coat and get that little bit of clump that I like for volume and darkness if I wanted. It has super staying power, AND taking it off is a breeze. But right now I'm loving that I have the choice to go either or.  What will I do in 3 months when I have to choose? I don't want to think about it!

What about you? Have you tried these mascaras? What did you think?  Also, I saw the MaxFactor 2000 Calorie Extreme Lash Plumper. It looks great, but the reviews online have not been so nice... Has anyone tried that one? Is it worth $10.00 or is Volume Couture still the better mascara?

That's it folks! Have a great week!
